Subaqueous soils are permanently flooded soils in protected coves, lagoons, and bays of estuarine systems. The subaqueous soils of Ninigret pond were mapped during the summers of 2000 and 2004. Map Unit names and attributes were updated during the spring of 2007.
- Purpose:

Subaqueous soils were mapped as part of a cooperative agreement between URI Department of Natural Resources Science, URI Graduate School of Oceanography and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Subaqueous soil map units were 'heads-up' digitized from USDA-NRCS true color, 1:5000,orthophotography taken during the summer of 2003. Delineations are from field work and soil descriptions conducted during the summers of 2000 and 2004. Some descriptions are from samples taken using a vibra-core. Sampling locations were determined using the landscape units of Ninigret Pond data layer. Once digitized, the shapefile was converted to a ArcInfo coverage file format to establish topology. A shapefile is final file format.
