The U.S. Geological Survey’s mission is to provide
reliable scientific information to describe and understand
the Earth; minimize loss of life and property from natural
disasters; manage water, biological, energy, and mineral
resources; and enhance and protect our quality of life.
The
USGS Biological Resources Division works with others
to provide scientific understanding and technologies
needed to support the sound management and conservation
of our Nation's biological resources. Towards these
ends, the USGS is authorized to enter into a cooperative
agreement to establish the North Atlantic Coast CESU
to assist in providing research, technical assistance
and education.
