The Fellows
of the Coastal Institute are the heart, soul, and muscle of
the program. The Fellows are the collective expertise that can
be brought to bear in resolving environmental problems in coastal
ecosystems.
Fellows come
from a variety of disciplines (e.g. ecologists, economists, business,
the arts, etc.) and represent a diversity of institutional settings,
such as academia, public agencies, the private sector, and citizens.
The single-most important criterion to be eligible for consideration
as a Fellow of the Costal Institute is your commitment to the mission
and vision of the Institute and willingness to work towards its
success.
There are three
classes of Fellows of the Coastal Institute. Application instructions
can be obtained by clicking on the appropriate class of Fellow.
Senior Fellows have
a distinguished record as a scholar or practitioner in advancing
knowledge or working to solve environmental problems in coastal
environments. The current roster of Senior Fellows of the Coastal
Institute can be reached by clicking here.
Coastal
Fellows are graduate or undergraduate students participating
in the Partnership
for the Coastal Environment, a URI program that provides experiential
opportunities for students interested in environmental problem
solving in coastal ecosystems.
There are many
benefits to being named a Fellow of the Coastal Institute:
1. Many of
the activities of the Coastal Institute are restricted to participation
by Fellows only.
2. Only Fellows
may submit research proposals through the Coastal Institute.
3. Fellows
are prominently identified on the CI web page and thus part of
a large network of scientists, managers, policy-makers, and citizens
committed to the mission and vision of the Coastal Institute.
