Project Goals: To provide a working group of interested stakeholders from Rhode Island and Massachusetts the opportunity to review and evaluate: 1) The screening criteria the Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency will use to designate a permanent offshore disposal site for dredge materials. Click here for the general criteria established in the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act of 1972. 2) The initial screening of potential offshore sites for permanent dredge material disposal to determine which sites warrant further, more detailed evaluation in the EIS process Roles of the Army Corps of Engineers, Environmental Protection Agency, and URI Coastal Institute in this process.
