Coastal Institute
Grants-in-Aid Program

The purpose of the Coastal Institute Grants-in-Aid program is to provide funding to enhance or expand the research and outreach productivity of Coastal Institute Fellows.  To be eligible for a CI Grants-in-Aid, you must:

  • Be a Fellow of the Coastal Institute (see www.ci.uri.edu/fellows for more information), and
  • Have been a PI on an extramural CI-funded research project during the previous fiscal year.

To apply, send an email request to Peter August (pete@edc.uri.edu) briefly stating:

  • The amount of funds you are requesting. Typically, PI’s may request an amount that is approximately 10% of the total indirect costs their CI Project accrued over the preceding year.  If you are uncertain of how much you may be eligible to request, contact Peter August.
  • The disposition of funds you are requesting. Please limit the number of requisitions or personnel appointment transactions to as small a number as possible; preferably just a few.  All requests for funds must be in budget categories that can be covered through standard URI purchasing or personnel procedures. Grant-in-Aid funds must be spent within 12 months of receipt.
  • How the Grant-in-Aid will advance your CI-sponsored research or outreach. Your research or outreach activity should be consistent with the mission of the CI. Click here for details.

Proposals will be reviewed by the CI administration. We will strive to notify applicants of the status of their request within 1-2 weeks of submitting an application.

If you have questions, contact Peter August.
