Prior to joining the Coastal Institute IGERT Program (CIIP), Anna completed a Master’s degree at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she studied the dispersal paths of barnacle larvae in Monterey Bay, California. She also spent one year teaching an introductory Oceanography course at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, Washington. She credits her South Puget Sound students with teaching her a great deal about communicating scientific ideas. Currently a second year Ph.D. student at the Graduate School of Oceanography, Anna’s major scientific interest is in how the physical dynamics of the coastal ocean shape biological populations. She is excited to incorporate her CIIP experience in multidisciplinary communication and leadership into her scientific career.
Aside from her academic pursuits, Anna has set foot on every continent except Antarctica. We expect she will make up for this geographic deficit in her future. Her most recent travels were to Nepal and Paraguay. In her free time, Anna also enjoys running, hiking, mountain climbing, reading novels, baking bread and being on the water.
