Abigail Anthony

Environmental and
Natural Resource Economics

Concerned by the rapid conversion of open space and farmland into condominiums and conference centers, Abby wanted to focus on land-use economics for her Master's degree. Abby researched willingness-to-pay for open space preservation in coastal communities and received her Master's degree in economics from the University of Montana in 2003. Returning home to Rhode Island, Abby started the PhD program in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics at the University of Rhode Island. She has continued to study preferences for open space preservation programs in Rhode Island and is attempting to create market-based incentives for land-use choices that preserve groundwater. In the future Abby would like to become a communications link between scientists and the rest of the world. Abby's goal is to translate scientific information into something interesting, readable, and relevant to the public and policymakers.
